I have not been able to play much so far but it is pretty good. It is also rare that there are content on Armaholics with voice acting.
When i get time I'll try and countinue it but so far I find it great
As I do not like to play Rambo style. And so is this campaign. In the second mission is discouraged. Man playing Arma 2 is not to frequent the record and remember that this is a simulator and not Rambo 6 My rating is -10
Zingo, you didn't reply to my MP.
This isn't a Rambo style campaign!
Just remember that in mission 2 you're still a badly armed civilian facing one of the most powerfull army in the world.
The title is explicite: Ambush Convoy!
This is guerilla action: hide, attack, retreat, hide, attack,...
The difficulty comes from the fact that you don't have time to prepare the ambush, but if you fail once, change tactic in your second try!
When civilians have to fight a powerfull army, it's not face to face!
It's always the same, from roman antics to Napoleon, World war 2, Vietnam, and nowadays with Irak and Afghanistan.
Even though it's obvious you put a lot of work into this, your campaign doesn't deserve anything beyond a 2 out of 5. This is a Rambo campaign all the way (at least until I was willing to go through with it.)
Mission 1: freezes up constantly, cannot be finished without -endmission.
Mission 2: this is plain laughable. I'd like to see a 10-man team ambush a convoy of 4 to 6 armored vehicles, 2 grenade launchers 8 to 10 trucks and about 30 to 50 infantry with 6 rockets and a few rifles. You have somewhere between 60 to 90 seconds to prepare for the ambush (good luck issuing commands to the AI in that time), which is supposed to happen in an open area.
Mission 3: nothing much to write about.
Mission 4: Freezes up every once in a while. Starts with an immediate firefight where the player has to "ambush" (a joke, right?) a hilltop with 10 men. The opposing force is about 30-40 people. The player team has no medics and no healing ability. After I managed to clean the ruins with only 1 dead (but all team members wounded), I was supposed to attack a base guarded by 2 BMPs, a mounted machine gun and several people. This is where I gave up.
It's a pity that you put in so much work in this campaign and this is the end result. It's obvious that you went for the OFP:R mood which you could've captured prety well. Unfortunately, none of the missions can be done without heavy Rambo-style action. Also, a lot of save & restore is required - I cannot imagine anyone being able to clear any of the missions with a single save. (If for no other reason, the sheer length of each mission.)
I wouldn't mind giving it another try but that would need a pretty thorough rework of the campaign missions.
XXBBCC, Have you seen it's an MP campaign?
Play it in a hosted game (LAN one if you want to play it alone).
You won't have to save anything, you'll benefit of the revive system.
And of course, you'll die... and respawn!
Use the mobile respawn, it's a mach tent, so you can heal yourself (and AIs) there...
For the mission 2: yes, you don't have time... but enough to put half a dozen mines on the road and enough RPG rockets to deal with the remainig armored vehicles and trucks...
You say it's all rambo missions. If your "Rambo style" didn't work, have you tried another way?
No, I didn't try in MP, since I don't have time nowadays to play MP - I only tried as SP. Does it say somewhere that it's MP-only? My mistake if it does.
I did give it several tries and even different approaches, since I really wanted to like it. As I said, it's obvious that you put a great deal of work into it and you were on the right track to capture a great mood, too. I appreciate those things.
"Rambo-style" is not what I prefer but I don't see how these missions can be completed in any other way. The friendly AI gets wiped out almost immediately in all situations (unless you leave them far behind) and that leaves the player character to do most of the work which is pretty much what "Rambo-style" is. I'm interested to see how I'd be supposed to set up an AI ambush with the statring equipment (6 rockets) with 10 men under 90 seconds in mission 2.
If it's MP-only, you should probably consider fixing the issues with it and turn it into an SP campaign, too - the mood and the story is not bad. (Execution, in my opinion, is.)
I love what you have done with this ... voice acting?? Awesome. Good story. I've only played the first mission and it is very hard like the others are saying. But it crashes every time I try to approach the airport. I voted to control Lopitino first then control the airport. Each time I try to approach it, it freezes. Guess I'll have to -endmission
It's a hard but rewarding campaign. I appreciate all the hard work you put into this, and I'll spare you my pathetic attempt at making even one mission as good as this campaign. 5/5.
When i first came across this DL i was pretty excited. The thought as fighting as the underdogs defending a country being invaded sound fun. I was getting tired of the special operation missions dont get me wrong theres some ass kicking campaigns like seal team six that are just amazing but playing them too much kinda just makes it feel repetitive lol.
Anyway I hate to say it buy I was sadly disappointed with rainy fall. It has SOOO much potential to be a good mod. I understand as a civilian you arent going to have air strikes and tanks at your disposal. But some missions starts you off with hardly any hardware to fight what you need to fight. Ontop of that in the first i managed to move all my civilians to the weapons cache but even hiding them the russians still see them and pretty much kill half of the almost instantly. I dont know if its me on this part but arming them is very hard, i had to switch to each individual team member and make go to the gear box and arm them my self. This can be annoying when theres an armoured patrol ripping you up. If it was set up a little differntly more guerilla like tactics where you can actually plan an ambush or a retreat re-arm re group and assault it would be awesome. Also the whole rambo thing does annoy me, it was one of the reason why i love arma soo much the fact that you NEED a team.
depending on your style of game play your score might differ but i give this a 2.5/5 But saying that MAJOR props put into the time to make the mod.
Austdingo, thanks for your coments!
Effectively, this campaign is easier being played by a team and a minimal number of players; playing ARMA2 missions with AIs is often hard...
About the first mission; you can manage to send all your men to the weapon cache or to safety before going to the warehouse...
One of the most interesting feature of the campaign is to get good weapons from russians, they will be available in the next missions, and if I do well remember, you can get AIs equiped in the briefing screen.
All missions have been reworked to be played with my team mates, and I can garanty that it was a lot of fun playing that campaign with 12-20 players on a dedicated server!!
I wish I had time to edit the campaign file too!!
But there have been so much improvements in each missions that I should do it...
Best campaign I have ever played by far! Some friends told me to download it so we could play it together, because they had tried it and said the voice acting was funny and good, and the mission was nice. Then we played together, and played the first level, and we were like okay, this is a fun mission but nothing else. Then we get to the second mission and on, and the story develops, and the battles are more intense and fun and we keep telling ourselves, wow this is like the civil war in Syria, Chechnya and so on. And we are having an enormous amount of fun playing it. We used ACE mod, and I don't know if that is the reason, but this campaign is eating the vanilla campaign, spitting it out and stumping on it. I can't say how awesome you are for making this, the details, the horror.. wauw... We found ourselves in situations where enemies came from every direction, and we had to work together and use tactics to succeed. I am very impressed with your work, and that is why I am commenting, because I think you should redo the mod page, it looks dull and it says nothing about how great this campaign is, and I feel bad for everyone who hasn't tried it. By the way, we used around 20 hours from mission 1 to 4, because the battles are so realistic and fantastic, and the story and sequences, like helicopters dropping soldiers just as we are about to takeover a radio station, wow..
So please, redo the page, add more details, maybe recommend ACE, make it more exciting because this campaign deserves it.
Feel free to give feedback!!
Exceptional campaign! I've never seen one like that.
I am sad that it was over.
Thanks.
