Few things...
Most if not all maps - the ramp is always at the west end giving an advantage as its an immediate high point.
CTF Tactical - Object placement is not natural ie logs laying across train tracks and half way through walls. If ya going to use mission templates and have most of the work done for you it would be good to spend far more time placing objects like they fit and feel/look natural in that particular location/area.
All maps - Mixed weapons... east having only east weapons, west having only west weapons would be a nice feature which nearly all map makers don't do... shame really, be nice if you could do this :)
I know I'm harsh but sincerely just trying to help :)
You make some very good points. Both sides have the ramps you refer to. While they serve their purpose well in Tiddleewinks, perhaps they dont belong in Tactical. Your right I could have cleaned up a few of those objects your talking about on tactical. I just decided that the appearance didnt bother me personally, but i do appreciate what your saying.
I would still say its leaps and bounds beyond the other CTF's ive been subjected to such as,
CTF_open field with weird randomly placed ugly buildings.
or
CTF_crooked castles with open fields
or even
CTF_Corner campers with open fields
As harsh as you are, im harsh myself. :)
Thats why I made these maps. While they arent perfect, I still think they have alot to offer players.
I can only test them so much by myself as well. If you would be interested in helping with testing on future maps let me know.
I just found an issue with heroes where one of the radar towers isnt leveled. I previewd that map 1000 times and its always level. then i try it on a dedicated, and its lopsided, then i try hosting it myself and its standing straight up. So I dont know what the deal is. Its not level on a dedicated, but its level if I host it myself? its the same frickin file so i dont know what the problem is. I assure you though i am paying attention to detail. When I release new versions, I will Alter it to fit your taste more. In the meantime i hope that wont stop you from playing it.
Just curious, Do you have anything good to say about any of the maps?
I really appreciate you taking the time to give me your feedback. Thank you.
I do... and I must of been in a bit of a hurry cause I do like to point out good points... soz :)
Your maps are tight which makes them intense and thats a mega plus, the low level cover (think thats in most of them) stops the rambos as you have to keep low and move slow...ish which fits the genre of A2 and thats a good thing :) ... and it does looks like you've made the effort to concentrate the fighting, your overall mission design/layout is very good
I'm a bit fussy (pedantic little biatch:)) and I've edited a few maps and try really hard to make the objects I've placed seem like they belong and fit the setting/location (takes me 20mins just to place one object... preview, tweak, preview, tweak etc lol) but then there are many A1 maps that didn't and I loved them alot. But in CTF Tiddleewinks for example I wouldn't expect this as its on an airstrip with no real setting as such anyway and its all about strategic cover :)
If you think its a good thing... east with only east weapons, same with west would be great. With so many weapon types its easy to make both sides very equal with their 'native' weapons.
But THANK you deadsmell, I'm stoked that you are making PvP missions of good quality and I know you going to put out some real killer missions... one more thing :) :) ever thought of making a 'King of the Hill missions.... its really just SC or C&H but one sector king of the hill done right would be awesome.
I won't hold you up anymore... there missions to be made :P
Check this over for me if you like/have time... would love your expert feedback, I'm no expert... well really I'm a complete novice at mission making and it a rip :S
Im a player (spend far too much time playing A2 really) and just know what makes a decent mission :)
I'll post back after I have a chance to play with it. (might be a few hours though)
Thanks for taking the time to play my maps. I know they arent perfect, but eventually I may go back and take the time to fix all the little things that are out of place, and all the other little adjustments that id like to make. Then ill release it as a re-mastered pack or something.
As far as King of the hill and stuff, Yes I love King of the Hill, probably my favorite gametype of all. Only problem is it seems noone is interested in those gameytypes at the moment (which sucks). So I have been trying to make maps in the gamemodes that are getting attention from players.
Maybe when I go back to "re-master" some of the maps, i will also release them with additional gametypes like KOH.
FYI I released a new map today. :)
Its a Capture and Hold (that seems to be popular with the players). Its my biggest map, its at least 5-6 times bigger than any previous map Ive done. I really tried to make sure all the objects were ok, but i may very well have missed some stuff. At any rate though, I think its in pretty good shape, check it out and let me know.
Thx deadsmell,
