I like the mission idea and immersive environment in the beggining but, I get the following error while driving just before getting to the CDF outpost for the first task after drinking the coffee from the old lady:
ca\characters\data\civil_tvreport_hhl_as.paa
I clicked continue (no other option) and a few seconds after that the game crashes.
Just wanting to help, I would really like to play this mission.
Hard to say what could have caused that. There isnt much scripting going before the CDF outpost. Have you tried to play without custom addons (if you have some)? I tried with SLX mod myself and it bugged at first objective (joined members dont move).
Can't confirm the aforementioned error, it ran fine. Great super long mission, but maybe that is the problem. The savegames tend to grow and thus loading times. After several hours of playing time it became really annoying, loading lasted about 90sec, and that is with my fast SSD, I assume loading times with a normal hard drive would be much longer. If you are in a spot where you get killed within a few seconds and then you have to reload again over and over, it is no fun at all. I could watch a whole snooker session of the Shanghai Masters on Eurosport while waiting for the game to load, only interrupted by short periodes of actual playing. No, I'm not gonna say *lol* now.
Another problem I encountered: After I had defended the middle camp, there was no "done, next obj" message. I mobbed up a few enemies that were stuck quite some distance away, but that didn't help. And since I was totally frustated by the extremely long loading times anyway, I finally gave up, after about 8hrs of playing time (including waiting for loading).
Maybe you can take out the artillery script (if that causes the savegame growth issues), I think the mission works fine without it.
Some minor improvement opportunities concern the lookout position, which doesn't provide good cover against the btr90, because it can nade against the hill, maybe you can reposition the fortifications a bit further up the hill. The machine gun also has a slightly suboptimal angle because of trees on the right.
Thanks for the feedback :). I havent had slow loadtimes yet but I havent played that long. If the scripts arent growing then its also possible that the ambient combat module is causing that with increasing dead bodies and wrecks. Garbage collector module will be in upcoming versions if I learn how it works.
I will tweak the hill fortifications and probably upgrade the whole middle outpost objective. There could be more objectives and other details too, but my main goal is to keep the performance good.
I ran Arma 2 w/o any addons and that fixed the error I was getting.
As far as the loading time for saved games, I have a non-SSD hard drive and it doesnt take me quite as long as 90 seconds, but it does take longer than other missions.
I had the same issue after defending the camp by the lookout position (east outpost?). I had to walk around the map and send some of my High-Command troops around to find the enemy. I actually made it all the way to the enemy question mark "?" and killed everyone. Then I read the task again and it said to defend and hold the middle camp, not the lookout position, so maybe I thought by going to the middle camp I would trigger something. To my surprise, an enemy helo came by not too long after getting there and startet rocketing the lookout position and more enemy troops started moving in to the middle outpost. Chaos everywhere!!!
Finally the "objective completed" message poped up on my screen after the last bad guy went down.
I agree, the lookout position is very hard to use defensively. The BTR-90 owned me and my squad almost every try, and it was hard to hit since it outranges your RPGs and the static AT cannon is most times blocked by the trees from where the BRT approaches, and plus all the other enemy armor and ground troops dont help.
After I told my squad to remain behind cover and holding fire, someone elses MG fire took the BRTs tires out and the crew bailed.
Another problem I encountered, which may be a game bug and not a mission bug, was my squadies getting stuck in the static defense weapons, mainly the MGs, at the lookout position after commanding them to disembark and return to formation; therefore rendering them useless after the task was completed.\
Ok thanks, I already looked pretty hard in there since the commander mentioned not to lose them. Perhaps it's just me, but it can be very difficult finding crates in the dark. It would make life much easier just giving the NVGs to the player at the start. Compared to a scavenger hunt in the dark.
:)Yeah i agree its hard to find your way around in the dark its like a blind man trying to find his way no hard intended just tying to help im sure your mission is good.
There are two game issues that are affecting really bad the performance in this and other big missions. You could give a support by voting these bug reports in dev-heaven:
Astonishing mission.
I did not yet finish it but I like every part of it.
Nicely done Voiceacting, credible scenario, not too easy, not too hard.
And a lot of possible ways to make Ivan´s life harder ;)
5/5 , keep it up!
ps: I loved the music in the camps. That was for me one of the biggest parts that made the atmosphere perfect.
This is one of the few missions that recreats the OFP-Feeling in my heart and my nerves ;) :D
Cheers!

Great mission overall...

Where the hell are the NVGs at? Made it to the middle outpost and still have not found any. Really don't wanna kill one of my own and grab his NVGs.
NVG is in the HQ tent at east outpost. In a crate next to the commander.

Smashn add on works a treat.
New beta patch 70951 fixes the possible late game FPS loss. I recommend to use it (or newer patch).
