"Gooks"??? Seriously?!?! And here I thought we were living decades since that was realized to be wildly offensive.
It's meant to be historical and taken from a quote in Apocalypse Now. While I may not agree with the language, it fits the time period and adds to the feeling. It is in no way to be offensive, just to fit the time period. Go watch any movie on Vietnam and you'll definitely see US soldiers at the time period using gook.
